Bitcoin Price Slides Toward $77,000 as Red October Deepens

The Bitcoin price is closing October the way its traders least expected: in the red, again. The world’s largest cryptocurrency fell toward $77,000 heading into the month’s final session, touching $77,646 on Thursday after Binance disclosed its security breach, and extending a decline that has made a mockery of October’s reputation as crypto’s most reliable month. Ether slipped to about $2,239, while BNB dropped more than 8 per cent in twenty-four hours.

Bitcoin Price and the End of ‘Uptober’

Historically, October has been kind to Bitcoin: it rose in ten of the thirteen Octobers between 2013 and 2025, with a median gain of 14.6 per cent. October 2025 broke the streak with a 3.95 per cent fall, and this year is set to make it two consecutive losing Octobers. As the crypto market coverage notes, weak American spot demand has weighed all month, with the Coinbase Premium Index negative throughout October, a sign that US buyers, usually the market’s engine, have stepped back.

Part of a Wider Risk Sell-Off

Bitcoin did not fall alone. The Nasdaq closed Friday down 2.9 per cent, gold dropped below $3,900 an ounce and silver suffered one of its worst months in years, a cross-asset liquidation driven by AI-spending doubts, a hawkish Federal Reserve and now the largest hack in crypto history. That correlation is uncomfortable for the ‘digital gold’ thesis, a debate we have followed through our coverage of breaking economic trends: in a genuine risk-off week, Bitcoin traded like a technology stock, not a haven.

    Where Support Might Lie

Analysts point to the mid-$70,000s as the zone where longer-term holders have historically stepped in, while warning that exchange-hack headlines can produce one more capitulation leg before any recovery. ETF outflows and liquidations have mounted alongside the price falls, flushing leverage from the system, which some researchers argue is a precondition for a healthier November.

Bitcoin has survived far worse Octobers in spirit if not in statistics. What its holders need now is a quiet week: no more exchange failures, no more macro shocks. Whether November delivers one depends on events, the midterms, the jobs report and the Binance investigation, that have very little to do with crypto itself.
